"You shouldn't dream your film, you should make it!"
Echo and Narcissus (2016)
Based on the Echo and Narcissus myth as told by Ovid in Metamorphoses Book III. This is our entry to the Cambridge Classics film Competition. Directed and edited by myself, written by Coral Dalitz. Please share for our chance to win!
Currently postponed. Watch the teaser trailer below.
"Away from it all"- Original song by Vishesh Lal (2015)
So, finally, Vishesh has written an original song. (Woo!!) In this video, I was trying out a new technique for filming with a DSLR, which is to 'starve the sensor of light' (thanks, Shane Hurlburt) Exposing the image a couple of stops under produces interesting results, and with practise, I think the image I am able to create with of my Canon 600D will improve. Anyway, this video was especially exciting, because we were using Vishesh's brand new Rode NT1-A, his Boss RC-3 loop pedal, and my new Tascam DR680. Technically, this is by far our best recording ;) If you want to contact us, you can go to the Contact menu, otherwise, click on our names to send us an email: Vishesh; Samuel
Kurien and his family (2014)
While I am currently thinking and praying about the next large film project, I was asked by the youth of my church to come up with an audio drama for our service about the persecuted church. This is a bit of an annual occurrence for Cornerstone, and last year I made a short film called 'The Trap' which was about North Korea. This time it's Syria. Below is the audio drama (with the dialogue on-screen, although I'd recommend listening to it through headphones with your eyes closed for full effect and limited distraction).
On the Run (2013)
'On the Run' is set somewhere in the future, where Christians are getting persecuted for their faith in the UK. The film follows a family and what they go through for what they believe. Below is the trailer, and the video below that is the full film, for those who have some time to spare :)
This is my largest film by a long shot. On the Run took 2 years to go from the beginning of the writing process to the première. Over those two years, I learnt invaluable lessons from film making. I really threw myself in the deep end with this film. –I had never done a narrative film before that was longer than about 4 minutes, let alone 72! In fact, the ending of the script was changed completely half way through filming, because we learnt how hard it was to actually film and organize scenes with a large number of actors. Nevertheless, I think the ending was ultimately greatly improved, and I am still proud of the achievement that is writing, directing, filming and editing a 72 minute film at the age of 13/14.
Monday Challenges (2013-)
'Expelled' was shot for a film competition (Monday Challenge, hosted by Film Riot) in the summer of 2013 over a period of 2 days. A requirement for the competition was that it had to be 1 minute long. The film was shot in Bradford with my cousins acting, and myself writing, filming and editing the piece. Unfortunately, we didn't win, but we did have a great time making it.
Shootout: This was also a lot of fun make, and it took about 10 times longer to complete than our first Monday Challenge, due to all the VFX. I learnt so much doing this, and you can read about that in my blog (3 parts) –shameless self-plug ;p (The blog is also at the bottom of the News tab).
The Trap (2013)
'The Trap' was filmed in the summer of 2013 for a service about persecution at our church. The film, as it is with most of my films, was made in a very short space of time, but I feel that the message is a very important one. Instances like the one portrayed in this film actually happen in North Korea. (Go to opendoors.org for more information).
The Pet Sitters (2013)
'The Pet Sitters' was shot in Bradford in 1 day over the same time that we shot 'Expelled' as a bit of a mini family project. This film was conceptualized in about 5 minutes, the shots and dialogue were all made up on the spot and I edited it in a day or two. It was a blast making it, and we hope you also enjoy watching it.
Fraser's Hill (2013)
'Fraser's Hill' is a hill resort in Malaysia. This piece was filmed there on our family holiday in the summer of 2013. This is just a short compilation of the wildlife and plants we enjoyed during our stay. 'Fraser's Hill' was edited in Malaysia in one day, but it is a taste of the gorgeous environment that is Fraser's Hill.
Music covers (2013-)
Vishesh and I are planning to expand our music partnership (sounds so professional :p) in the future... when I can convince him to record an album ;). Here are the video covers we have done so far.
